Smartlipo: Effective Results In A Short Time

One of the problems with liposuction is that it is a surgical procedure that often has a long recovery period. This is not true of Smartlipo which employs the use of sensitive laser technology. The lasers used for this procedure have been developed for the purpose of addressing fat pockets in specific areas of the body.

An advantage of this method of fat removal is that the laser that is used encourages collagen to be increased in the areas that are being treated. This equipment and technique was thoroughly researched and tested before being granted approval for use in 2006 by the Food and Drug Administration.

The process for using the laser involved a small incision made after a local anesthetic is applied through which the laser is using a cannula. The laser targets fat cells turning them immediately into an oily substance. This method can dissolve up to 3500ml of fat in a single treatment.

When the fat cells are turned into residue there is an immediate shrinkage of the area being treated. The skin becomes taut and collagen enters the skin cells quickly leaving a healthy glow to the treated area. The issues of sagging skin in areas that may be difficult to reach through means other than surgery is reduced considerably.

In some cases individuals wish to have the residue of the laser treatment removed immediately during the procedure. This is done using a suction machine which is designed to accommodate the small incision made for the laser. Doctors who perform the procedure have agreed however that manual removal of the residue does not increase the rate of recovery following treatment.

Unlike standard liposuction the risks of injury during this procedure are greatly reduced. Since the procedure is non-invasive there is no damage to blood vessels or muscles. There is no blood loss since Smartlipo involves only a small incision and does not include invasive surgical techniques. The use of the laser promotes coagulation which also decrease the possibility of bleeding near or around the area that is being treated.

The length of a standard procedure is about one hour followed by a short period of recovery which may involve bruising, swelling, or numbness in the area treated. This normally lasts only a few days to a week. The skin in the area that has been treated will appear more tighter and firmer as soon as the bruising and swelling subsides. This is only a matter of a few days. The recovery time for Smartlipo is much shorter than for standard liposuction because the procedure is much less stressful on the body. Most people are able to return to work with 24-hours of having the procedure done with minimal discomfort.

The full benefits of Smartlipo may not be completely visible for some months following the procedure. However there will be small changes as the metabolism expels fat residue and the skin tightens. In some cases people return for follow-up treatment to address other areas that may be of concern.

While the procedure will remove fat pockets effectively an individual must maintain a proper diet and exercise program to keep the fat from returning. In some cases individual continue an unhealthy lifestyle after treatment which results in a build-up of fat in those areas where it was removed.
